ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS - Posted: 01 Feb, 2008
I have already booked our accommodations for the nights surrounding the wedding. As soon as you know who will be attending in your party, I recommend booking the accommodations before your options are limited by rooms filling up. You, of course, can choose which dates you'd like to be in Belize, but we will be at the Lodge at Chaa Creek on the nights of Wed., July 2 - Sunday, July 6. I hope that you will be able to plan on arriving by Thursday so that we can all do a group activity together on Friday before the wedding.
If you want to be as sure as possible that you will have accommodations that are up to American standards, you will probably want to book your accommodations at the Lodge at Chaa Creek, where our wedding will be held. This is an upscale lodge (for Belizian standards at least) that appears to be very comfortable, but rather expensive as it is considered one of the best hotels in all of Belize. You can see their options for accommodations at http://www.chaacreek.com/accomodations/ If you have a group of more than 2 people, the most reasonably priced option is to book one of their suites/ villas because they are priced per suite, while the regular rooms are priced per person. You can view their rates at http://www.chaacreek.com/rates/accommodations/. The lodge has offered a 20% discount off of their summer rates for our wedding guests, so make sure to indicate that you are making accommodation arrangements for our wedding. You must stay there for at least three nights in order to get the discount.
If you are looking for more reasonably priced accommodations, Chaa Creek offers the "Camp Casitas" package for $55/ person/ night, which includes breakfast and dinner. The accommodations, however, are rather rustic tent cabins. If you're the type of person who can rough it a little bit, this may be an option for you. They will not give the group discount for these accommodations. You can see what people have to say about the Lodge at Chaa Creek on Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g291971-d300705-Reviews-Lodge_at_Chaa_Creek-San_Ignacio_Cayo.html.
If you'd like to find accommodations that are somewhere in between the luxurious lodge options and the rustic Camp Casitas, you can search for hotels in the area of San Ignacio. The city of San Ignacio is about 25 minutes from the Lodge at Chaa Creek, but has many affordable options. The Casa Blanca Guest House has rooms for two people for $30-50/ night: http://www.casablancaguesthouse.com/.
Another option is to book your room at DuPlooy's, which is Chaa Creek's "next door neighbor," about 2 miles down the river. They offer a better range of prices than the Lodge at Chaa Creek, but they are not as luxurious. I sent an email in the summer and they said that they would offer 50% off as a seasonal discount, but you will have to check with them to make sure that they are still willing to do that, as I did not make any agreements with them. Like Chaa Creek, DuPlooy's also offers all-inclusive packages that you can view on their website, if you are wanting a package that spends some time in the rainforest as well as at the beach: http://www.duplooys.com/rooms/index.php
